Steph Curry injures his ankle and leaves the game against the Clippers

SAN FRANCISCO – The Golden State Warriors' start to the season was a dream.

Midway through the second half of their home opener on Sunday, they experienced their worst nightmare.

Steph Curry fought through a screen late in the third quarter of a 112-104 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers and appeared to twist his left ankle. He immediately limped to the Warriors' bench, where he sat down and received treatment before returning to the game at 8:07 of the fourth quarter.

However, Curry only lasted 13 seconds and one offensive ball before it appeared he aggravated the injury while setting a screen. He hobbled off the field with an even more conspicuous gait than before and ran straight down the tunnel to the locker room.

According to the Warriors, Curry suffered a sprained left ankle. He will undergo an MRI later Sunday evening.

The first clue, coach Steve Kerr said, was that he could avoid the worst-case scenario.

“He’s fine,” Kerr said after the game. “I think he used the word mild or moderate. He's obviously sprained that ankle many times. He doesn't think it's that bad. But it’s obviously a cause for concern.”
