Brian Kelly and the No. 8 LSU Tigers are trending in the right direction after a decisive Week 7 win over Lane Kiffin's Ole Miss Rebels.

Now it's time to go back to the drawing board and prepare for another SEC matchup against a heated Arkansas Razorbacks team on Saturday.

Sam Pittman's program has proven it can compete with the best after defeating a top-five opponent in the Tennessee Volunteers, making the Week 7 matchup all the more enticing.

For LSU, signalman Garrett Nussmeier is firing on all cylinders after a gutsy performance in the fourth quarter against the Rebels in Week 7.

“I would say he is unique. Garrett is in his first year, but he has the ability to realize that I have to find a way to get through this. “He's talkative on the sideline, he's always looking for solutions,” Kelly said. “What can we do here with the reporting I see? He will say I like this piece, can we come back to it? He is looking for success later in the game. Some of the plays that were called later were ones he really liked.

Nussmeier connected with wide receiver Aaron Anderson in the end zone on a fourth down conversion, sending Saturday night's thriller into overtime. From then on, it was all about LSU, and Kelly praised his quarterback's ability to keep his eyes on the field to make a play.

“He had other options there and a lot of the offensive structures, as you can imagine, he's going to have the opportunity to get the ball out quickly. He worked his way through the third part of the progression. It's Anderson coming all the way from the side.” Butt hurried and just guessed where he was going to be and threw the ball where he was going to be. That's just trusting in your teaching, trusting in knowing that he threw the ball so many times that you just let it go, threw it open and that's a confidence that he had in the route.”
