SpaceX rocket launch from Cape Canaveral on Thursday

Welcome to FLORIDA TODAY's live coverage of the Starlink 6-77 mission launch!

Will third time be the charm for SpaceX?

Already scrubbed twice, SpaceX will try again to launch its latest Starlink mission from Cape Canaveral Launch Complex 40. The start is scheduled for 3:19 p.m. on Thursday afternoon at the earliest.

This mission was originally scheduled to launch on Sunday, November 3rd, but a helium problem caused the team to withdraw. SpaceX launched the CRS-31 resupply mission for NASA from Pad 39A on Monday evening.

Another attempt was made on Wednesday – SpaceX even postponed the launch time until the end of the window. No official reason for the brush was given, but the 45th Weather Squadron had already predicted slim chances of good weather.

SpaceX will attempt to launch this Starlink mission again this afternoon, currently scheduled for 3:19 p.m. Opportunities exist until 7:09 p.m.

Today, the 45th Weather Squadron has now forecast a 90 percent chance of favorable weather with a low risk of weather violations in the booster landing zone.

Since it is one of the Starlink Group 6 satellites, this launch will take a southeasterly trajectory.

Update 3:27 p.m: The Falcon 9 landed on Just Read the Instructions.

Update 3:19 p.m: The Falcon 9 rocket has left the launch pad!

Update 3:13 p.m.: The SpaceX live stream has begun and will be posted above – below the countdown clock.

Update 3:09 p.m.: If you're planning on watching this launch, now is the time to head outdoors.

Update 3:04 p.m.: About eight minutes after liftoff, the Falcon 9 will land on the Just Read the Instructions drone ship waiting out in the Atlantic.

Update 2:54 p.m.: This launch will be in a southeast direction as it is part of Group 6 Starlink.

Update 2:46 p.m.: Refueling on the SLC-40 is in progress!

Update 2:40 p.m.: SpaceX is now targeting 3:19 p.m. for launch. No reason was given.

Update 2:35 p.m.: If SpaceX plans to launch at 3:13 p.m., they should begin refueling shortly. Here's a behind-the-scenes look at the process:

  • 38 minutes: SpaceX launch director confirms “launch” for fuel load.
  • 35 minutes: Loading of rocket kerosene and liquid oxygen into the first stage begins.
  • 16 minutes: Loading with liquid oxygen of the second stage begins.
  • 7 minutes: Falcon 9 begins engine cooling before launch.
  • 1 minute: The command flight computer begins final checks before takeoff; Pressurization of the fuel tank to flight pressure begins.
  • 45 seconds: SpaceX launch director confirms launch is possible.
  • 3 seconds: The engine control commands the start of the engine ignition sequence.
  • 0 seconds: Lift up.

Update 2:28 p.m.: The Falcon 9 launch vehicle that controls this Starlink mission is only on its third flight – with only one Starlink mission and NASA's Crew-9.

Update 2:19 p.m: As we watch the launch of this Falcon 9 today, it was this week in 1970 that the Saturn V rocket for Apollo 14 rolled out of the VAB.

The VAB is currently working on NASA's SLS. Artemis II is scheduled to send astronauts around the moon at the end of 2025.

Update 2:05 p.m.: It wasn't just the rocket observers in Florida who were disappointed yesterday. The company had planned to launch not only from Cape Canaveral, but also from Vandenberg, California. Both launches were canceled for unknown reasons.

SpaceX is targeting launch today at 3:13 p.m. in Florida. Launch from California is now scheduled for tomorrow, November 8th.

Update 1:55 p.m.: SpaceX plans to continue catching the first booster stage last month. The private space company continues to work toward fully reusing its newest rocket.

The next launch from Boca Chica is scheduled for Monday, November 18th at the earliest.

Update 1:43 p.m.: There will be occasional clouds in the area, but conditions appear to be significantly better than Wednesday.
