Sources – Timberwolves and Rudy Gobert reach three-year, $110 million extension

Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert has reached a three-year, $110 million contract extension, sources told ESPN on Tuesday night.

The Timberwolves and Gobert's agent, Bouna Ndiaye of Comsport, negotiated the new contract and finalized an agreement before Tuesday's season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers, securing Minnesota's league-record four-time Defensive Player of the Year .

Gobert declined his $46.6 million player option for 2025-26 and received a new multi-year contract, giving the Timberwolves significant flexibility as the franchise contends with rising salary cap space.

As negotiations continued, Gobert expressed confidence in the Timberwolves' approach to contention and finding a creative way to maintain financial security and allow the organization to add more pieces.

According to sources, Gobert's deal includes a player option for 2027-28 and a trade kicker.

The 32-year-old Gobert played a crucial role as the Timberwolves went 56-26 and reached the Western Conference finals last season. Minnesota had advanced beyond the first round of the playoffs for only the second time in franchise history. He averaged 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds and 2.1 blocks en route to his fourth Defensive Player of the Year award.

It was the eighth straight season that Gobert, a three-time All-Star and four-time All-NBA player, averaged a double-double.

Gobert spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Utah Jazz before moving to Minnesota in a blockbuster trade in the 2022 offseason as the Timberwolves gave up a package that included four first-round picks and multiple players to take over the defensive anchor.

ESPN's Tim MacMahon contributed to this report.
