Social Security announces two new changes to 2025 payments

In less than two months the… Social Security Administration will begin paying monthly benefits to more than 70 million recipients in 2025. However, some of these Social Security checks are not mailed on the usual dates, particularly to recipients who qualify for the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program. According to the SSA, it is a financial program designed to assist low-income seniors over the age of 65, people with disabilities or children in special financial circumstances. If you would like to learn more about the upcoming 2025 payment dates, read more about the monthly payment plan here.

Social Security confirmed two changes to 2025 payments

Each month, the federal agency delivers five sets of payments to Old Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (RSDI) beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs. Based on this schedule, beneficiaries will receive their payments under the following conditions:

  • If they qualify for the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program, they will receive all of their monthly benefits on the first day of the month, regardless of their date of birth.
  • Pensioners, survivors and disabled people will receive their payments from the date they claimed their first benefit.
    • On the third day of the month for recipients who submitted their application before May 1997
    • On the second, third and fourth Wednesdays for recipients who applied after May 1997.

Please note that these payment dates may vary depending on holidays or weekends. According to the 2025 Social Security Payment ScheduleIn January, January, and February, the regular payment dates for these months will change slightly, as SSI beneficiaries will receive their benefits on January 31st beginning February 1st and February 28th beginning March 1st. The reason for these advance payments is that whenever a regular payment date falls on a holiday or weekend, SSA moves that date to the previous business day so as not to jeopardize beneficiaries' financial budgets.
