Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton is one of the smartest offensive minds in NFL history. However, he is also one of the more complaining secondary generals and is not afraid to call a spade a spade. Sometimes that can get on players' nerves, but it doesn't seem to have bothered rookie quarterback Bo Nix.

Payton had his hands full developing Nix after Denver spent a first-round pick on the first-year signal-caller last offseason. At the same time, the two have diligently improved their working relationship. Still, they had their ups and downs. Luckily for the latter, retired Saints quarterback Drew Brees offered some golden advice on how to deal with the former's no-nonsense personality The herd.

Brees spoke from experience, having spent 15 seasons with Payton, and urged Nix to maintain the same energy as his coach:

“Be just as demanding as before,” Brees told Nix. “Sean (Payton) likes this. Sean wants to see you confident and confident.”

We saw Nix address Brees' comments about his behavior toward Payton as recently as Week 5 against the Las Vegas Raiders. The two got into a heated exchange that was captured during the live broadcast of the game.

In particular, commentators highlighted Brees' words of wisdom to Nix during the interaction between the first-year pro and Payton. While tensions appear to be rising, it shows that the duo is becoming more comfortable and maintaining open communication.

Brees and Payton formed one of the best quarterback-head coach tandems in recent league history, so his insight is paramount. The 13-time Pro Bowl gunslinger said their connection reached a point where they could practically “finish each other's sentences.” However, this took a lot of time and effort, something Nix needs to be prepared for.

In Week 7, Payton and the Broncos will face the Saints on the road. This will be the first time the sideline general has returned to the Superdome since stepping down from his role with New Orleans. Not only will Brees be in attendance, but he will also be inducted into the franchise Hall of Fame at halftime.

Hopefully Brees, Nix and Payton have time to chat. This would be an unofficial transfer of power from one quarterback to another.
