Shams Charania has agreed to a contract with ESPN as the company's senior NBA insider.

This message comes afterwards Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports reported Monday that Charania and ESPN were in “preliminary” contract negotiations following the resignation of Adrian Wojnarowski.

Wojnarowski announced he was leaving ESPN on September 18 and agreed to become the new general manager for the basketball program at St. Bonaventure, his alma mater.

According to Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, Wojnarowski gave up $20 million to leave ESPN.

Ryan Glasspiegel from the New York Post reported on July 16 that Charania's contracts with The Athletic and FanDuel TV would be finalized “in the next month or two.” The insider also left Stadium on August 19 after six years with the company.

Despite the reported contract negotiations, Charania was not the only option to replace Wojnarowski. According to McCarthy, ESPN had considered asking senior NFL insider Adam Schefter to take on the role of “ultimate insider” and also cover the NBA. MLB insider Jeff Passan was also considered an internal candidate.
