FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) – Several buildings in Fairbanks reported damage to their doors and windows over the weekend.

Some on social media noted that the damage appeared to be from a gun.

Four windows were damaged at a building on Barnette Street over the weekend.

The complex houses several facilities, including a Republican Party office on the second floor.

The offices in the building whose windows were damaged belong to the Ringstad law firm and Pacific Rim Counseling, which provides assessment, treatment and services to people struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues.

Apparently no one was in the building and no injuries were reported.

The motive and nature of the damage are currently unclear and the situation is under investigation.

Builder Seth Church estimates damage at $15,000 to $20,000.

He also suspected the damage was caused by a BB gun or similar weapon.

The Fairbanks Police Department (FPD) responded to the incident on Monday and said the matter was under investigation.

Chief Ron Dupee released a statement on Facebook saying, “While I will not speculate on the motive for this vandalism until the investigation is complete, I understand that there are concerns that this has a political connection.” I Recognize how divisive politics can be and urge Fairbanks residents to remember that we are all part of this community and must remain united despite our differences. I strongly condemn any form of political or non-political violence or vandalism – these actions violate the principles we seek to uphold. FPD will do its best to hold individuals who commit such acts accountable. We don’t want that kind of nonsense in our community.”

FPD reported being contacted over the weekend about three additional acts of vandalism to the windows of buildings around Fairbanks.

One of these included the Barnette Street post office.

Chad Roberts, who manages the KeyBank building at 100 Cushman Street, says a door at that building was likely shot 14 times on Sunday.
