Donald Trump's October 27 campaign rally at New York's Madison Square Garden was the focus of Seth Meyers' “A Closer Look” segment on Monday. Here's how to watch

Regard Late Night with Seth Meyers on NBC weekdays at 12:35/11:35c and the next day on Peacock.

Meyers shared that he felt the tone of the evening was not what Trump and campaign officials such as his son Eric Trump had claimed. “You may have heard Kamala Harris and Tim Walz say that they are running a campaign of optimism and joy,” he began. “Well, Donald Trump wants you to know that he is too.”

The Late at night The host soon played an excerpt from Trump's speech that evening, in which the former president continued his habit of comparing his prosecution to that of gangster Al Capone. “And then I go in there and they come after me,” Trump said, reportedly referring to the officers involved in his numerous indictments. “These animals, these dirty animals. “I am leading a movement of optimism, confidence and hope,” Trump continued.

Seth Meyers recaps Elon Musk and Hulk Hogan's Trump rally appearances

After sharing a montage of Eric Trump's claims in various television appearances that his father's campaign is “a movement of total love,” Meyers again pointed out that “both campaigns are trying to claim the mantle of love and joy.”

“And on the one hand, Kamala Harris is fighting with Beyoncé, Bruce Springsteen and Barack Obama in front of record crowds,” he said. “(Democratic vice presidential candidate) Tim Walz did a Twitch stream with AOC where they talked politics while playing Drive crazy before Walz showed AOC an old Sega game with the title Crazy taxi.” (This led to Meyers admitting to playing a video game or two at work himself.)

“So this is a glimpse into the Democrats’ version of joy and optimism,” Meyers said. “Let's look at all the hopeful and optimistic guests lining up for Trump's big rally at Madison Square Garden,” he added, cutting to footage of billionaire Elon Musk, wrestler Hulk Hogan and the campaign speakers making inflammatory comments about the U.S. Territory of Puerto Rico, Latinos, Hillary Rodham Clinton and Harris himself made.

“It may not surprise you to learn that these obscene and racist comments have sparked a fierce backlash and forced Republicans and the Trump campaign to back down,” Meyers added, citing Florida Republican Sen. Rick’s condemnations Scott, and a statement from the Trump adviser that the controversial joke “does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign.”

“Do you know how bad something has to be for the Trump campaign to distance itself from it? “Trump won’t even distance himself from Hannibal Lecter,” Meyers joked.
