A massive meat recall is affecting grocery stores across the country, including the popular Giant Eagle and Kroger chains in Ohio. The recall, sparked by listeria concerns, affected 10 million pounds of meat products contained in sandwiches, salads and wraps.

Here's what you should know.

Which Kroger and Giant Eagle products are part of the meat recall?

BrucePac, a precooked meat manufacturer, has recalled hundreds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products due to growing concerns about listeria. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has released a list of retailers, brands and foods that contain the recalled meat.

Some of them so far Kroger brand items The recall includes the chain's prepared chicken salad kits (Cobb, Garden BLT and Chef salads).

Also, Giant Eagle products recalled These include the chain's chicken salad bowls (Caesar, Southwest-Style and Queso Fresco), which join the growing list of products ending up on the recall list.

How to find out if your food has been recalled

The manufacturing date of the affected foods is only October 8th, meaning they are likely still in refrigerators and freezers or may still be found on the shelves of restaurants and other establishments. According to USA TODAY, items manufactured between June 19, 2024 and October 8, 2024 that have the company number “51205 or P-51205” on the packaging are subject to recall.

What are the symptoms of listeriosis caused by listeria?

Listeriosis, which results from listeria outbreaks, is a serious infection caused by the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes found in contaminated foods and can cause fever, headaches and seizures, among other symptoms, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
