Russell Wilson praises Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers won their second straight game after Russell Wilson's first start as the Pittsburgh Steelers ended with a 37-15 victory for the Steelers.

Wilson was named the starting quarterback after Justin Fields led the Steelers to a 4-2 start to open the season. Although they got off to a strong start, with the exception of the Las Vegas Raiders, none of their wins were convincing.

Wilson was able to lead the Steelers to their fifth win of the season and move them into first place in the AFC North. Wilson threw for 264 yards and two touchdowns without a turnover and led the Steelers to their second convincing win of the season.

During the postgame press conference, Wilson was asked about the move that led him to the starting job.

First, Wilson addressed the fact that he felt there was no ill will between the two quarterbacks.

“You know, we’re in a tremendous situation,” Wilson said. “You know, I think there's a lot of noise from the outside that gives the impression that it's something negative, and this rivalry is internal, but it's not human.”

“I have to give credit to Justin Fields, man, just everything he could do, how great he played. He inspires me every day with how he works. Vice versa. We have a great relationship.”

When it came to Wilson's assessment of Field's talent, he had high praise for his teammate.

“He’s a great quarterback, he’s a franchise quarterback. “He’s a leader, he’s got all the intangibles,” Wilson said. “Whatever I can give him and show him and just be around him, that’s part of my job.”

Wilson will likely be the starter in their matchup next Monday night when the Steelers host the Giants, but it's encouraging that the culture in their quarterback room is evolving positively regardless of personnel changes.
