Riverside County Sheriff – NBC Los Angeles

Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco said Monday he stands by his comments over the weekend when he said his deputies may have prevented a third assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, despite a federal law enforcement source telling NBC News , there is no evidence that there was an attempt to assassinate the former president.

Officers arrested 49-year-old Vem Miller of Nevada on state weapons charges a quarter-mile from the rally. The arrest in Coachella, California, took place before the former president's arrival.

“We know he showed up with multiple pieces of identification, an unregistered, unregistered vehicle with fake license plates, and weapons and ammunition,” Sheriff Bianco said. “We ended up finding the person with all these monstrous red flags and were able to arrest him on weapons violations and get him out of the facility before the president got there.”

Bianco's comments come a day after his weekend press conference where he shared his thoughts on what they may have prevented.

“I really believe we prevented another assassination attempt,” Bianco said.

But on Monday we also heard from Miller, who has now been released from jail after posting bail.

“I am releasing this statement due to the false information that is currently being released,” Miller said in a video shared on Rumble.

In the video, Miller shared that he was a long-time supporter of former President Trump.

“I have been involved in the Republican Party in Nevada since 2000,” Miller said. “I am a Trump caucus captain, I collected votes for Donald Trump and I am also a Trump team leader.”

He said he worked in Coachella as a journalist for the America Happens Network and always carried weapons.

“I carry two firearms in the trunk of my car: a Glock and a shotgun, and those two firearms that I carry for myself are purely for protection,” he added.

Bianco didn't give in.

“If he's going to say that he was an innocent victim, then he has to also say how stupid it was to think that he could do all of that and try to take part in that event with weapons,” Bianco said. “I don’t care if he’s a supporter of President Trump.”

“I am very proud of my deputies and everything they have done there,” said Bianco. “We’re not making up anything he did, we just caught him.”
