Report: Raiders tried to keep Mike Williams away from Jets

Losing Davante Adams left the Raiders with a void at wide receiver, but according to Sports Illustrated insider Albert Breer, the Raiders tried to acquire Mike Williams from the Jets as part of the Adams deal.

“I can give you this little nugget about (Mike Williams),” Breer said on The Rich Eisen Show this week. “The Raiders tried to get the Jets to trade him for Davante Adams, but the Jets didn’t.”

Williams remains a candidate to be traded, but Breer indicated the Jets still want a respectable return for him.

It would be interesting to know what the Jets wanted from the Raiders in return for Williams, and it's possible they would have included him in the deal if the compensation was a solid third-round pick.

As it stands, the Raiders can still get a second-round pick for Adams if the Jets reach the AFC championship game or Adams is named to the Associated Press All-Pro team.

None of these options are likely to materialize and the best-case scenario for the Raiders could be that their pick acquired from the Jets goes at the top of the third round.

There was speculation that the Raiders could have gotten a second-round pick for Adams if they had been willing to take on more of his contact, but multiple reports before the trade suggested that Mark Davis was unwilling to take on additional money to take up his deal with him.

The biggest trade question surrounding the Raiders right now isn't who they're trying to acquire before the deadline, but who might be willing to sell.

Maxx Crosby and Brock Bowers won't be traded, but is there anyone else on the roster they wouldn't trade by the November 5th deadline?
