Jose Mourinho couldn't hide his frustration after being sent off during Fenerbahce's draw with Manchester United on Thursday.

Christian Eriksen temporarily silenced Fenerbahce's frenzied support but old foe Youssef En-Nesyri secured a 1-1 draw against a United side that has won just one of its last 11 European games.

But Mourinho was on fire as referee Clement Turpin's drama on the touchline missed the target as the hosts attempted a penalty.

The Portuguese, who coached United from mid-2016 to late 2018, was sent to the stands for his protests after Bright Osayi-Samuel was denied a penalty following a foul by Manuel Ugarte.

Regarding the incident, Mourinho told TNT: “I don’t want to talk about it.”

As Mourinho went to the referee, he added: “He told me something unbelievable. At the same time, he could see what was happening in the penalty area and my behavior on the sideline.”

“I congratulate him because he is absolutely incredible.

“During the game, at 100 miles an hour, he had an eye on the penalty situation, and he had an eye on the bench and my behavior.”

“That’s the explanation he gave me. That’s why he’s one of the best referees in the world.”

Asked if he saw the incident again: “I watched the incident. I don’t want to talk about it.”

Mourinho watched the rest of the game in the stands as his side fought for a point and United blew a lead in Europe for the fourth consecutive year.

United have made a rocky start to the new-look competition, with a shock home draw against Twente followed by an injury-time goal that saved them from defeat in Porto, and Mourinho insisted the result in Istanbul was a good one for was his former team.

“They got a point against us, not us against them,” said Mourinho. “We played fantastically. If we play like that in the Turkish league, we will destroy everything because of course we played against a team that has a higher level than us. The Premier League has more quality, more intensity and more of everything.”

“I think my boys played a great game. In England we're probably talking about two or three Manchester United players who didn't play. You don't know how many of us didn't play. At the beginning we had four players who didn't play. We had to solve a crazy puzzle. I couldn't expect more from the players.

“Andre Onana made two fantastic saves. They scored in a situation we knew they could. We performed phenomenally.”

“Come on, he saved the result. My goalkeeper didn't save, he made two impossible saves in 10 seconds. He was the most crucial player in the result. Of course he didn’t make 20, but he made two. That was unbelievable.”
