Reality show survivalist, master diver remembered after Honolulu crash

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Family members say 34-year-old Sarah Danser, who was from Castle Rock, Colorado, lived in Hawaii for about 12 years.

She has starred in the Discovery reality TV show “Naked and Afraid,” the All-Stars Show and, more recently, “Fight to Survive.”

Danser was a master diver, boat captain, survivalist and self-described “pirate.”

She lived part-time on a boat in the Kewalo Basin and was known for her global adventures.

“Okay, friends and family. Now is the time. We’re officially taking off,” she said during one adventure on her Instagram reel.

On Sunday evening, a two-vehicle accident occurred on Diamond Head Road east of Poka Street in Kahala, according to Honolulu police.

Danser was a passenger in a car and was wearing a seatbelt.

The 59-year-old driver, her boyfriend, was traveling eastbound when the vehicle lost control and collided with a parked car.

Danser was hospitalized in critical condition. The condition of the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was serious. Two other people were in the parked car. One woman was in serious condition and one man refused treatment.

Police said speed appeared to be a factor, but not drugs or alcohol.

Sarah's father and brother arrived at the hospital on Tuesday and said when she died later that day she was wearing leis, scarves and bandanas thanks to her friends.

“I actually saw what a big difference she made in other people’s lives,” said father Dan Danser.

“I think she saved my life once when she was diving in Indonesia,” he added.

“Magical is the way to describe them. “Sarah had this positive energy about her that really filled the environment she was in,” said brother Jake Danser.

Family members say she survived breast cancer twice.

Tim Mason, a friend and fellow diver, says the community is heartbroken. He remembers big watch parties for Sarah and was inspired by her.

“She was smart. She went underwater. She found food, slugs and things like that,” Mason said.

“She knew what she had to do to survive and she did it great,” he added.

Danser worked at Island Divers Hawaii in Hawaii Kai and the company is working on a marine monument with her family.
