“Rams’ Sean McVay sets the record straight on Cooper Kupp trade rumors.”

Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua returned from injury to lead the Los Angeles Rams to a 30-20 victory over the Minnesota Vikings Thursday Night Football.

After the game, Rams coach Sean McVay confirmed that the team had called Los Angeles to inquire about a trade for Kupp, but added that he “expects” the All-Pro receiver to remain with the team.

“I’m telling you,” McVay said. “The teams have reported. Some of the things I've seen out there… They're just not true. We discussed this with these people. Teams have been calling about him. And we let him know what the dialogue was there.”

“There are a lot of things out there where there isn’t a lot of accountability in the reports. And that’s unfortunate.”

Kupp, 31, missed five games after suffering an ankle injury in the team's Week 2 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Excitement over his return to active duty on Thursday was somewhat dampened by trade discussions surrounding his name The Athletics Dianna Russini had reported that Los Angeles was looking for a second-round pick in discussions surrounding Kupp.

Asked whether Kupp's performance on Thursday – five receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown – increases the likelihood that the Rams will consider trading the star wideout, McVay responded.

“No, I don’t think about those things,” McVay said. “I'm thinking about coaching our team. I think a lot of the things that were out there or speculation were exactly what they were – speculation. We are an inside-out organization.”

“I'm really happy to have Cooper Kupp back with us. And it will stay that way.”

Kupp has struggled with injuries each of the last three seasons, but in 2021 he led the league in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns while also managing to set the NFL record for receiving yards in a single season. Kupp was named Offensive Player of the Year and helped lead the Rams to a Super Bowl victory, taking home the MVP award in the big game.

With Kupp and Nacua now healthy and coming off two straight wins, Los Angeles (3-4) appears poised to make a playoff push in the second half.
