Some trick-or-treaters could see rain in Baton Rouge on Halloween Thursday. Still, meteorologists don't expect it to be a large-scale event, a National Weather Service meteorologist said.

The chance of rain moving into Baton Rouge from the northwest from the late afternoon into the evening on Halloween is more than 50%, Dave Schlotzhauer said Monday.

The timing of the rain is close to East Baton Rouge Parish's official trick-or-treating hours, which are 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m

But there is reason to hope for non-stop Halloween fun, at least for some.

“The chance of rain decreases as the evening progresses,” said Schlotzhauer. “The hard part is knowing exactly where it’s going to rain, and we don’t have that.”

There is also a small chance of lightning and thunderstorms, but not severe weather, he said.

“When you're out and about, pay attention to whether there's lightning nearby,” he said.

Trick-or-treaters can remember the saying: “When lightning strikes, go indoors,” Schlotzhauer said.

Official Trick-or-Treat hours in Ascension and Livingston Parishes are also Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In Livingston Parish, communities may have their own trick-or-treating times.
