Here's a recent football story from the AP:

PARIS (AP) — The French soccer league has condemned homophobic chants from some Paris Saint-Germain fans during Saturday's home game against Strasbourg.

PSG play their arch-rivals in Marseille next Sunday and the offensive insults targeted the club and its midfielder Adrien Rabiot. He is a former PSG player who played more than 200 games for the club from 2012 to 2019 and his move to Marseille is seen as a betrayal.

“These recent discriminatory chants from Paris Saint-Germain fans are unacceptable at a time when all of professional football is working to ban homophobic behavior and chants from stadiums,” the league, known as LFP, said in a statement.

As the chants rang out, the Parc des Princes stadium announcer twice demanded that the chants stop and was ridiculed for doing so.

The LFP said its disciplinary committee would examine evidence.

Last season, some PSG players were given a one-game suspended sentence by the league's disciplinary committee for making offensive chants against Marseille after a home league game.

Ousmane Dembélé, Achraf Hakimi, Randal Kolo Muani and Layvin Kurzawa were filmed shouting insults while celebrating at the end of a 4-0 win against Marseille. The four players apologized.

This game was also marred by homophobic chants from some PSG fans directed at Marseille players. As a result, the league ordered the closure of the Auteuil stand behind one of the goals for two games, including one that was locked.

The French government also condemned the chants and said France's sports minister Gil Avérous would meet with the LFP president early next week to discuss measures to prevent something like this from happening again.

PSG fans will not be allowed to attend next Sunday's game in Marseille at the Stade Velodrome for security reasons, as there have been repeated clashes between rival fans in the past.

The rivalry between the clubs has been one of the fiercest in French football since the 1990s, when Marseille was in its heyday and PSG became increasingly ambitious with the support of television channel Canal Plus.

PSG has been financed by Qatari investor QSI since 2011 and has become the most successful French club domestically with twelve league titles – two more than Marseille and Saint-Etienne.

Despite not having won the league since 2010, Marseille still have the ultimate bragging rights against PSG.

Marseille is the only French club to have won the Champions League, beating Italian giants AC Milan 1-0 in the 1993 final, while PSG won its only final in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, beating Bayern Munich 1-0 lost.
