Phil and Jennifer Goodrich, who were headed to Wyoming, noticed there was a problem at Vail Pass after they got a head start.

“We left before it started snowing and when we got to Vail you could see it coming in and it happened almost immediately, the trucks hit and barely made it here,” Goodrich said.

Deciding that Frisco was as far as they could risk it, the couple pulled over, staying in a hotel and waiting out the closures and problems with drivers on the road, some not yet fully prepared for winter driving conditions were prepared.

Jose, another driver who stayed overnight to wait out the storm, said he had always wanted to put his winter tires on, but it just hadn't happened yet.

“I have two, I still have to buy the other two to wear,” Jose admitted, referring to the conditions he found himself in on Sunday. “Very bad, very slippery, yes, a lot of cars get stuck on the side of the road.”

It is one of the first major snowstorms in the central mountains. If you haven't winterized your car yet, it's time for snow to return to the mountain passes.
