Pro-Trump conservative reacts to being banned from CNN over racist comments

Conservative commentator Ryan Girdusky was banned from CNN after he made a racist comment on the radio toward journalist Mehdi Hasan in which he referenced the deadly pager attack in Lebanon last month.

In Monday night's controversial panel discussion on “CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip,” Hasan, Girdusky and other guests discussed Donald Trump's rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. Hasan, an outspoken critic of Israel's military behavior in Gaza and a former MSNBC host, declared that he supported the Palestinians, to which Girdusky casually said, “Well, I hope your pager doesn't go off.”

Lebanon's health minister said at least 37 people, including two children, were killed in last month's attack involving exploding pagers and walkie-talkies. The attack is widely believed to have been carried out by Israel. Thousands of civilians and Hezbollah fighters were injured.

Girdusky's comment was immediately dismissed by some of the show's guests, as well as host Phillip, who said it was “completely out of pocket.”

“Then I apologize,” he replied. “I thought he said Hamas; I apologize.”

The show went into commercial break shortly afterwards, and when it returned, Phillip informed viewers that Girdusky had crossed “the line of complete lack of civility” and had been removed from the show. CNN soon issued a statement saying that there was “no room for racism or bigotry at CNN or on our broadcast” and that Girdusky “will not be welcomed back to our network.”

Girdusky is not one of the right-wing figures notorious for making inflammatory remarks that attract widespread attention. But he is no stranger either.

Girdusky is the founder of the 1776 Project PAC, a right-wing group whose goal is to fill school boards across the country with conservatives “who resist political indoctrination.” He sits on the board of American Moment, a public policy organization with ties to Project 2025. Girdusky has said he is friends with Trump's vice presidential running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, and he has appeared on Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes' podcast.

This also wasn't the first time Girdusky made inflammatory claims on CNN.

This also wasn't the first time Girdusky made inflammatory claims on CNN. Just a few weeks ago, he claimed on Phillips' show without evidence that the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020 following the police killing of George Floyd “led to more than 15,000 deaths of black men in this country” because “the Violent crime has increased.” .”

Despite his repeated apologies on Monday's show, Girdusky later changed his mind, writing on X in part: “Apparently you can't go on CNN if you make a joke.”
