Poll expert Frank Luntz said Americans who are truly undecided at this late stage are unlikely to vote for Donald Trump or Kamala Harris and may even sit out the election.

But he believes there are non-committal and persuadable voters who could provide a decisive edge. And new data shows signs that these voters are gritting their teeth, holding their nose and choosing two people they don't like.

The latest New York Times/The Siena College poll released Sunday showed close races in the seven key battleground states. But among those who have decided in recent days, Harris has a 58% to 42% lead.

But there are regional differences that could confound the Electoral College map and upend expectations about which states will cast the winning votes.

Among late movers in the Sun Belt, Harris leads 66% to 34%, according to the study Just. Among the late deciders in the north, Trump is ahead by 60 to 40%.

The numbers suggest that the Democrats' so-called blue wall strategy to secure victory over Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin may be in jeopardy. But they also suggest Harris has an alternative route through parts of the south and west.

In the Just In one poll, Harris has a 3-point lead in Nevada, Wisconsin and North Carolina and a 1-point lead in Georgia. Trump has a 4-point lead in Arizona and a 1-point lead in Michigan. In Pennsylvania, the two candidates are tied. However, the results of all seven states were within the limits of sampling error.

This is now being followed closely Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa A poll conducted by Selzer & Co. showed Harris leading Trump 47% to 44%, a stunning reversal from September.

The numbers shocked election watchers late Saturday as they signaled that not only could a deep red state suddenly be in play, but that Harris may have more support in other parts of the Midwest.

That's because the same poll in 2020 shattered Democrats' hopes of a landslide in the region, as other polls suggested a large lead for Joe Biden. In the final vote count, he narrowly trailed Trump in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Elsewhere, prediction markets fluctuated wildly last week, giving Trump a big advantage and showing a dead heat or even a slight advantage for Harris.

And Thomas Miller, a data scientist at Northwestern University, told Assets recently that Trump is suffering a historic collapse in the final days of the campaign that could result in Harris winning the election.

The turning point came late last month during Trump's rally at Madison Square Garden. At the time, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe called Puerto Rico “a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean,” sparking a massive backlash.
