Predicted line-up of Barcelona against Bayern Munich: Champions League

Barcelona will be looking to confirm their great start to the season and secure three Champions League points when they host arguably their biggest continental nemesis of recent times: Bayern Munich.

It's not the first time Hansi Flick has been on the sidelines of this European rivalry. During his time as manager of the Germans, he gave Barcelona one of the most embarrassing nights in Europe, beating the Blaugranas 8-2 en route to the UCL title in 2020. Less than half a decade later, Flick is hoping to end Barcelona's six-match losing streak against his former team dating back to 2015.

After losing to Monaco to open the UCL season, Barcelona defeated Young Boys and began their European campaign. Vincent Kompany's men are looking to bounce back from defeat to current league leaders Aston Villa to end Bayern's 41-game unbeaten run in the UCL group/league stage.

With the 5-1 win against Sevilla at the weekend, Barcelona brought important players back into their squad. Gavi and Fermin López played their first minutes of the season and Dani Olmo was back in the squad for the first time in over a month. Flick now has alternatives as he faces the biggest test of his young tenure with the Catalans.

Here's how Barcelona could line up as they attempt to beat Bayern Munich for the first time in almost a decade.

TW: Iñaki Peña – Flick said there was “no reason to change the goalkeeping situation” and confirmed Peña as the starter against Bayern Munich over new signing Wojciech Szczęsny.

LB: Alejandro Balde – It was a quiet but solid start to the season for the 21-year-old. Whether it's Michael Olise or Leroy Sane, Balde is facing his biggest defensive test of the season so far.

CB: Pau Cubarsí – “One of the future defensive players in world football,” as Kompany describes it, makes the start as he continues to show impressively mature performances even at the age of 17.

CB: Iñigo Martínez – Together with Cubarsí, they will have their hands full trying to contain Harry Kane.

RB: Jules Koundé – The Frenchman, who has just won his 100th cap for the club, will look to prevent any German attack on Barcelona's right flank.

CM: Marc Casadó – Casadó has been very impressive since Flick took over. In a team full of big-name players, he is usually tasked with doing the invisible work, and he excels in the defensive midfielder role. La Masia might have produced another gem.

CM: Pedri – Pedri played possibly his best game of the season in the win over Sevilla. If his injuries allow it, it is clear that he still has the talent and potential to become one of the best midfielders in the sport.

LW: Raphinha – After playing centrally in recent games, Raphinha returns to the wing and will look to contribute in goal for the fourth straight game with the Blaugranas.

AM: Dani Olmo – Although he didn't play at the weekend, Olmo is fit and could make a direct return to the eleven after a promising start to his Barça career. Olmo has scored four goals against Bayern Munich in his career, the most he has scored against any other team.

RW: Lamine Yamal – Yamal has to deal with the speedy Alphonso Davies in one of the most attractive duels the game can have. He is on the hunt for his second UCL goal.

ST: Robert Lewandowski – The Polish striker faces his former team, where he scored 344 goals in 375 games.
