Player Ratings: Monza 0-1 AC Milan

AC Milan took three important points against Monza despite a less than fantastic performance. Some players stood out while many struggled. Below you will find the reviews of the Rossoneri.

If you haven't already, be sure to check it out how we decide on player ratings. From the scale to the impact on the rating, we have put everything together there.

Starting XI

Maignan (6.5): He made a great save from Pereira in the first half, showed great reflexes and was also good with his feet in the first 45 minutes. To be honest he wasn't tested much in the second half but did what was necessary. Still, this save was really good in the first half.

Terracchiano (5.5): Overall, it was a decent performance from the 21-year-old, although he lost the ball in a very exposed situation in the second half, which could have been very costly. He also wasn't particularly convincing with Monza's disallowed goal, so the rating is perhaps a bit harsh, but still justified.

Thiaw (6): Milan struggled overall in the first half, especially defensively, but that was more due to the structure than the individual players. The German was calm and composed, had some good passes forward and also won many aerial duels.

Pavlovic (5.5): Like his colleague, the defense was in chaos for a while, but in his own right he wasn't terrible at all. However, he did not show the same ability in the passing game or in the duels.

Hernandez (7): The captain ended up acting like a captain. He led the team from behind with rallying defense and several great runs forward. He always seemed to be giving Monza trouble, once blocked by the goalkeeper (good shot) and sending several promising crosses into the box.

Fofana (6): His positioning was a bit questionable at the start of the first half, but he improved a lot and was able to pass well as the game progressed. He definitely did a lot of the “dirty work” and therefore deserves a pass here.

Reijnders (7 – MOTM): The goal was of course decisive in the end, but the combination with his teammates is also a big part of the rating here. He was almost always available and helped create opportunities. It was also very nice to see him add numbers into the box and lead to the goal.

Chukwueze (5.5): Although the Nigerian at least gave the impression that he was comfortable with the ball, he unfortunately didn't have much success with it in the 1v1 situations. He also had a few opportunities to shoot, but didn't hit the ball properly. He can do better.

Pulisic (6): The American's first half was relatively quiet, but towards the end he came to life with a great cross for Morata on a counterattack (which led to the goal). He may have slowed down a bit in the second half, but he managed to cause a few fouls and keep possession of the ball.

Okafor (5): He missed two very good chances in the first half, one in particular being fantastic, and overall wasn't really involved. In terms of the combination in the second half, it was a little better, but certainly a subpar performance.

Morata (5): In the first half he had some good opportunities in the penalty area, one of which led to a goal, but he missed both no matter how they spun it. He gave the ball away too often and had some sloppy moments, but improved significantly in the last 30 minutes with flick-ons, fouls won and so on. This has improved his rating a bit, but we still need to see a lot more striker instinct from him.

Substitute

Leao (5.5): Incredibly difficult to judge as there really weren't many chances for him to demonstrate his skills. However, he got a chance almost immediately after combining with Reijnders and failed to make the right connection. Then, after getting through another time with a bit of luck, he fired the shot straight at the goalkeeper.

Loftus Cheek (N/A): We haven't seen enough to give it a rating.

Calabria (N/A): We haven't seen enough to give it a rating.

Musah (N/A): We haven't seen enough to give it a rating.
