Played for both: Leeds United and Sheffield United

Leeds United face Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United on Friday as Daniel Farke's men return from the international break.

Ahead of the game, we took a look at the players who represented both clubs and selected a starting XI from those who wore both shirts.

GOALKEEPER:

Paddy Kenny

The goalkeeper initially signed for Sheffield United on loan in 2002, but the deal soon became permanent as he cemented his place as the Blades' first choice goalkeeper. After 318 appearances and eight seasons later, he moved to QPR in 2010. After his time in London, he moved back to Yorkshire, where he joined Leeds United. In his first season he played every league game and left the club in 2014 with a total of 81 appearances.

DEFENDER:

Jayden Bogle

The current Leeds right-back moved from Derby County to Sheffield United in the summer of 2020. Over the course of four seasons, he made 103 appearances and scored twelve goals. Bogle played in both the Premier League and Championship with the Blades before signing with Leeds United ahead of the 2024/25 season. So far, the 24-year-old has made ten appearances and one goal for the Royals.

DEFENDER:

Vinnie Jones

After the end of the 1988/89 season, Jones moved from Wimbledon to second division club Leeds United. The defender became an integral part of the Leeds side that returned to the top flight as champions, making 45 league appearances and scoring five goals. He played 53 times in all competitions before moving to Sheffield United the following season. The defender played 41 times for the Blades from 1990 to 1991, scoring two goals.

DEFENDER:

Matthew Kilgallon

Kilgallon came through LUFC's youth academy and made his professional debut with Leeds United in 2002. Before joining Sheffield United in 2007, Kilgallon made 95 appearances for Leeds, scoring three goals. He went on to play 124 times for the Blades, scoring four goals, before leaving the club in 2010.

MIDFIELDER:

Jamie Shackleton

The Leeds United academy graduate began his football career with the Whites, making his debut as a substitute in the 4-1 win over Derby County in August 2018. He went on to make 94 appearances, scoring two goals in all competitions. The versatile player left his boyhood club in the summer to join fellow Yorkshire club Sheffield United, where he has currently made four appearances for the Blades.

MIDFIELDER:

Tony Currie

The former England international signed for the Blades in 1968 and became an icon for the club. In eight and a half years he played 376 games and scored 68 goals. He moved to Leeds United in 1976. Currie spent three seasons extensively with the Whites, scoring 16 goals in 124 games, before moving to QPR in 1979.

MIDFIELDER:

Michael Tonge

Tonge began his professional career at Sheffield United and became a favorite of the club's fans between 2001 and 2008. With the Blades he achieved promotion to the Premier League in 2006, played 302 games and scored 24 goals before moving to Stoke City. The midfielder rejoined former Blades manager Neil Warnock when he moved to Leeds on loan in September 2012. His contract became permanent in December and he played 76 times for the club, scoring five goals, before leaving in 2015.

MIDFIELDER:

Bruno Ribeiro

Portuguese midfielder Ribeiro joined Leeds from Vitoria FC in 1997 and played two seasons in the Premier League for the Whites. He featured heavily in his first season at the club, but after injury he struggled to regain his place under David O'Leary. In total he scored six goals in 52 games and moved to Sheffield United in 1999. Ribeiro played 22 times in his first season and only made eight appearances the following year as he was unable to secure a first-team place with the Blades.

FORWARD:

Brian Deane

The striker joined the Blades from Doncaster Rovers in 1988 and achieved successive promotions in his first two seasons with the club. He also scored his first Premier League goal with the Blades in 1992 before moving to Leeds United at the end of the season. Deane had three different appearances with the Blades, his second appearance following his four seasons with LUFC in 1997 and his third and final appearance towards the end of his career in the 2005/06 season. In total he played 271 games and scored 144 times during his three spells for the club. Deane also played twice for Leeds, the first time in 1993, where he represented the Whites until 1997 under Howard Wilkinson and George Graham. The striker returned to Elland Road for the 2004/05 season where he scored a memorable four goals in a 6-1 win over QPR. He finished his time at the club with a total of 201 appearances and 45 goals.

FORWARD:

Mick Jones

The legendary Leeds United striker began his career at Sheffield United in the early 1960s. He scored 76 goals in 172 games over five seasons with the club before moving straight to Leeds in 1967. Under Don Revie, Jones became a legend during his time at the club, winning the First Division, FA Cup and League Cup, Charity Shield and Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. He ended his career with Leeds in 1974, aged 30. Jones scored a total of 111 goals in 313 games for the Whites.

FORWARD:

Billy Sharp

Sharp rose through the ranks at Sheffield United and made a few first-team appearances in 2004 before moving to League One club Scunthorpe United. After two successful seasons with the Iron, he returned to Bramall Lane for a fee of £2 million, but after two full seasons he moved to Doncaster Rovers. Sharp played for Southampton, Nottingham Forest, Reading and Leeds before returning to Sheffield United for a final time in 2015. In his final spell he achieved promotion from League One and the Premier League, becoming an icon for the Blades. In his three seasons he scored 129 goals in 377 appearances. During the 2014–15 season, Sharp played one season at Elland Road, where he scored five goals in 35 games.
