PK Yonge was awarded the College Board Advanced Placement Platinum Distinction and the AP Access Award

PK Yonge Developmental Research School press release

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The College Board announced that PK Yonge Developmental Research School at the University of Florida has been named to the school's 2024 Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) Honor Roll, receiving the AP Platinum designation and the AP Access Award has.

The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs deliver outcomes for students and whose programs expand access. Schools may receive these recognitions annually based on criteria that reflect their commitment to improving college culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.

“PK Yonge is particularly proud to be recognized with this prestigious honor from the College Board. “Receiving both the highest possible designation, AP Platinum, and AP Access designation are strong indicators that our school is on the rise when it comes to providing both an outstanding and inclusive educational experience for all of our students,” said Brian K. Marchman, PK Yonge Principal and Superintendent. “Each year more and more of our students at PK Yonge are achieving success and the credit for this goes to them, their teachers and supportive parents who work together.”

PK Yonge had 97% of seniors taking at least one AP exam during high school, 54% of seniors scoring a C or higher on at least one AP exam, and 17% of seniors taking five or more AP exams had!

“AP provides students the opportunity to engage in graduate-level work, earn college credit and internships, and potentially improve their grade point average,” said Trevor Packer, director of the AP program. “The schools that received this award are proof that it is possible to expand access to these courses at the college level and still achieve strong performance – they represent the best of AP.”

AP Platinum Award

To receive the Platinum designation, schools must achieve a certain percentage in three categories: University Culture (at least 80%), University Points (at least 50%) and University Optimization (at least 15%).

PK Yonge received 97% for college culture, 54% for college credits and 17% for college optimization.

AP Access Award

PK Yonge will also receive the AP Access Award, which recognizes schools that encourage more low-income and underrepresented minority students to take AP courses. The percentage of students in at least one of these categories who have taken at least one AP exam prior to graduation is proportional to the student body of PK Yonge or higher, demonstrating a clear and effective commitment to equitable access to advanced coursework.

The College Board's Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) enables students to pursue college-level study while still in high school – with the opportunity to earn college credit, an advanced internship, or both. Through AP courses in 38 subjects, each culminating in a rigorous exam, students learn to think critically, construct solid arguments, and see many sides of an issue—skills that prepare them for college and beyond.
