The second annual NBA Cup will once again feature custom court designs for tournament games throughout the season.

The court designs for the 2023 tournament champions, the Los Angeles Lakers, the 2024 NBA champions, the Boston Celtics, and the rest of the league's teams were announced on Thursday:

The NBA Cup court designs have been unveiled. I sat down with Victor Solomon, the artist behind the looks, and the NBA's Christopher Arena to discuss this year's statement: A “wallpaper” with 30% opacity that gives each team an individual perspective https://t. co/fDLsmYyUPy pic.twitter.com/NED62CuqpJ

Per Tim Newcomb from ForbesThe goal of the NBA Cup court designs is to “highlight the association’s statement-edition uniforms.” All 30 teams were able to personalize their respective courts with an artistic “background” that completely covered them with a 30 percent opacity, “allowing each team to have their own take on the design, be it a logo, wordmark, cityscape, or unique element associated with the city,” Newcomb explained.

“We challenged the teams to embrace the vibrancy, the boldness of these things and the statement we want us to make,” artist Victor Solomon told Newcomb. “We encouraged people to go further.”

Solomon added that he enjoyed working with each team's creative group to see their unique approaches to personalizing the courts in a way that would resonate with fans. For example, the Lakers' court features the cityscape of Los Angeles, while the Celtics' court features a parquet floor.

“We built the system, laid the foundation and got the team to put the icing on it,” Solomon said.

The new courts will feature throughout group play and the quarterfinals of the seasonal tournament, which is scheduled to begin on November 12th. The NBA is committed to distinguishing between regular season games and tournament games, and these new designs are a continuation of that effort.
