Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner is warning anyone who tries to intimidate voters on Election Day

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — The Philadelphia district attorney is highlighting voter protection efforts ahead of Tuesday's election.

The DA's Election Task Force, along with city leaders and the police commissioner, held a press conference Monday morning.

District Attorney Larry Krasner says there will be additional officers at polling stations across the city.

However, by law, no police officer is permitted to be within 30 meters of a polling station.

The election task force will be activated starting at 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Krasner emphasized that anyone who attempts to intimidate or suppress voters will be held accountable.

“There is an electoral court with judges. You have orders. These orders will essentially read: Get out of the polling station. Anyone who doesn't come out will be arrested. That’s how it works,” Krasner said.

On Monday, officials presented a united front.

“I can guarantee you that we will have a free, fair and safe election in Philadelphia,” said City Commissioner Seth Bluestein.

At the state level, Pennsylvania Secretary of State Al Schmidt urged people to remain vigilant and not let disinformation stop them from voting.

“I will make two commitments to you today: First, that Pennsylvania’s elections will be free, fair and secure. Second, all registered voters will have the opportunity to make their voice heard,” said Schmidt.

More than two million people in Pennsylvania have already made their voices heard by sending in mail-in ballots.

In Philadelphia alone, more than 179,000 ballots were returned, about half the number mailed in 2020.

These can be processed and counted when the polling stations open on Tuesday at 7 a.m

Currently, around 50,000 ballots have still not been returned. It's too late to send them by mail. So if you still have one, you will have to put it in a mailbox.

These drop boxes will be closed at 8:00 p.m. when the polls close.
