Although Gary O'Neil admits he and his players would like to have “miles more than two points” ahead of Saturday's game against Crystal Palace, he says the team is fully confident they have the ability to achieve their goal season to turn.

Johnstone may face his former club

“He and Jose both benefited from the situation. Sam hadn't played at Crystal Palace for a while and also picked up a serious injury during that time, but he came in and had a little aches and pains, but he trained well.

“Since Sam came in, Jose has shown he won’t give up his spot easily. Every day in training you can see a real iron determination in him and his performances. It's really good for the group that we both have pressure.

“I think the boys know that the job of a coach and that of a player comes with pressure. If you're not under pressure, it means you're not performing at a very high level. The fact that we are under pressure every day, every week is just that.

“Ten games mean nothing to me. After 38 we know where we stand. Why should 10 be different from 8, 12 or 14? There are no lines drawn anywhere. “We would like to have miles more than two points, but what we are showing is that our faith and belief are intact. Any team that can come back from 2-0 down to fifth or sixth place in the league with five minutes left shows they still have plenty of fight and cohesion.

“This is a really positive sign and we need to use it again and take it into the future.”
