The accident occurred on the Golden Freeway (Highway 58) near the intersection with Washington Avenue. Highway 58 was closed in the area around the accident.

The deceased officer was a man and he has a wife and family. His wife asked that his name not be released to the media at this time. He was in the military, served as a commander and flew Blackhawk helicopters.

Both officers were outside their vehicle investigating the accident when they were struck by the suspected drunk driving driver. They were trapped under the vehicle. The injured officer is female. She was taken to hospital and the extent of her injuries is unknown.

First Alert Chief Meteorologist Dave Aguilera says Golden received at least 8 inches of snow from the storm, which began dumping moisture Monday and overnight.
