Nuggets vs. Timberwolves NBA Predictions and Tips (11/1)

After an 0-2 start to the season, the Nuggets are back on track with back-to-back wins. Nikola Jokic & Co. recently achieved a 144:139 overtime win over the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday. Jokic led the way with another triple-double (29 points, 18 rebounds, 16 assists), while Aaron Gordon and Jamal Murray each scored 24 points.

As for the Timberwolves, they're hoping to return to a winning streak after a 120-114 loss to the Dallas Mavericks two nights ago. Although Anthony Edwards scored a game-high 37 points, it wasn't enough to stop the Mavs as Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving combined for 59 points.

Still, tonight marks the first meeting between the Nuggets and Timberwolves since the second round of the 2024 NBA postseason. The Northwest Division rivals needed a full seven games to decide the series, ultimately ending with Minnesota losing a 98-8 in Game 7. 90 victory over Denver and advanced to the Western Conference finals.

There has been a fairly even relationship between these rivals for some time. Including this playoff series, the Timberwolves and Nuggets have each won seven of their last 14 meetings.

The Timberwolves eliminated the Nuggets in seven games in Round 2 of the 2023–24 playoffs.

If the Nuggets want to win tonight, they're going to need a bigger effort. Their only two wins this season came in overtime against the Nets and Toronto Raptors – two teams that are expected to be among the worst in the NBA this year. In the meantime. They failed when facing legitimate teams like the LA Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder.

While the Timberwolves weren't perfect, they at least beat the Raptors by 11 points in regulation time and also picked up a win against a solid Sacramento Kings team. Even though things didn't go as planned against the Mavericks, the T-Wolves only lost this game by two possessions.

Ultimately, I think defense could be the difference here. The Nuggets struggle to defend the ball, scoring the seventh-most points per game with the 11th-best field goal percentage and 10th-worst defensive efficiency.

On the other hand, the Timberwolves rank 12th, 18th and 15th in this regard. Not perfect either, but nowhere near as bad as the competition.

The Timberwolves' defense was better than the Nuggets' at the start of the 2024-25 season.

Even though it could end up being a close game, I accept that Timberwolves should stay big at home. Both teams leave a lot to be desired this season, but the Timberwolves are closer to being a complete team. The Nuggets have struggled to beat the cellar dwellers, and their poor defensive play makes them hard to trust against players like Edwards, Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert.

In that sense, regardless of who wins, you take them The total score of 218 is over is child's play. After all, the Nuggets have averaged 267.5 total points in their last two games, while two of the Timberwolves' last three games have exceeded tonight's projected mark.

Even though Rudy Gobert is one of the best defensive centers in the NBA, he can't hold back Nikola Jokic. That's why I'm taking the Serbian superstar with me to score points o27.5 points (-104) for the best Nuggets vs. Timberwolves player prop bet.

Jokic has had a great start to the 2024-25 season. The three-time NBA MVP is averaging 31.5 points on .573/.550/.778 splits in four games and has hit an over in each of his last three outings with the prop – including two 40-point attempts. Now he faces the Timberwolves, with whom he has gotten along quite well in recent years.

In his last 13 meetings with Minnesota, Jokic is averaging 31.3 points while shooting 51.9% from the floor and 33.3% from deep. He scored more than 28 points nine times during that span, including four over hits in the second-round playoff series.

In other words, you should feel pretty confident with this Jokic prop.
