No. 9 Tigers shut out UAA for weekend sweep

Bret Link And Klavs Veinbergs dotted and Kaidan Mbereko stopped 18 shots and led No. 9 Colorado College to a 2-0 victory and series victory over Alaska Anchorage on Saturday night at the Chuck Homan Ice Rick in Anchorage.

The Tigers remained undefeated and went 4-0 for the second straight game, while UAA fell to 1-7.

Link, playing in his hometown, opened the scoring with his second goal of the year at 7:13 of the first half. Gleb Veremyev stole the puck in the CC zone and sent a cross-ice pass to Link, who beat UAA goaltender Greg Orosz with a wrister from the right circle.

The Tigers killed a five-minute major and played foul play Riley Stuart Later in the first half it was largely thanks to Mbereko who saved four times in the penalty kick.

Just 57 seconds into the third period, CC's Brady Cleveland Porter Schachle checked into the corner boards and a full sheet of glass crashed onto the ice, causing a 20-minute delay.

Veinbergs gave the Tigers a game-winning goal at 7:20 of the third period with a wrister from the left point that went past Orosz. Veinbergs' first goal of the season was assisted by Zacharya wisdom and Cleveland, who scored his first career point.

Mbereko didn't see much work but was up to the task throughout the game. He made three of his 18 saves during the final 4:29 while UAA subbed Orosz in favor of an extra fielder, and posted his first shutout and the team's since March 17, 2023, a 1-0 win over Denver in the 2023 semifinals NCHC Frozen Faceoff.

The Tigers return to action on Friday, November 1, when they host cross-town rival Air Force in the Battle for the Pikes Peak Trophy at Robson Arena beginning at 7 p.m
