Nick Saban, College GameDay Crew makes decisions

ESPN sent the College GameDay crew to Austin this weekend for a crucial SEC showdown between the Texas Longhorns and Georgia Bulldogs.

The celebrity guest picker was none other than former Texas golfer and PGA Tour superstar Scottie Scheffler, who helped make the Week 8 picks.

The selection is now set as the GameDay crew makes a split decision on LSU-Arkansas Saturday night.

A look at Fayetteville's Week 8 game information, picks and what Nick Saban had to say about Garrett Nussmeier ahead of the 2024 season:

When: Saturday, October 19th
Where: Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Time: 6:00 p.m. CT
channel: ESPN Network

Desmond Howard: LSU
Scottie Scheffler: Arkansas
Nick Saban: Arkansas
Pat McAfee: Arkansas
Lee Corso: LSU
Kirk Herbstreit: LSU

It's a split decision for the GameDay team as Saban worries about LSU getting an emotional win over the Ole Miss Rebels in Week 7 coupled with what's coming next weekend against Texas A&M.

Pat McAfee is intrigued by Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green's dual-threat ability and the problems he causes defenses with his legs.

It's now a 3-3 split Saturday night in Fayetteville, with pundits and analysts expecting it to be a close one between the two SEC programs.

Ahead of the 2024 season, Nick Saban commented on LSU signal-caller Garrett Nussmeier and his belief in the first-year starter.

“I think Garrett Nussmeier is going to be one of the absolute sleepers in college football this year,” Saban said Saturday on College GameDay.

In addition to his comments about Nussmeier, he also predicted that the Tigers would make the College Football Playoff this season.

“LSU always has talented people. They talk about all the receivers they lost – you could shake a tree in Louisiana and those guys would fall out,” Saban said.

In Nussmeier's first career start against Wisconsin in the ReliaQuest Bowl, he finished the game 31 for 45 with three touchdown passes and just one interception.

Now it's his team as he continues to work through the 2024 season as one of the SEC's top quarterbacks. LSU is currently 5-1 (2-0) with a Week 8 date against the Arkansas Razorbacks fast approaching.

“It wasn't his car, he drove the thing fast and didn't care if it got a dent. It's his car now. And he’s really careful not to mess it up,” Kelly said of Nussmeier during fall camp. “He understands that he can’t put the ball in the other team’s hands. I just think that's how it is. You know, being a starter, understanding how important it is and realizing that taking care of the game is absolutely critical to our success.”
