The New Orleans Saints (2-3) are expected to be without a quarterback Derek Carr According to Jay Glazer, three to four weeks with his oblique injury FOX Sports.

The 33-year-old Carr suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of Week 5's 26-13 road loss to the Kansas City Chiefs (0-5). Spencer Rattlerthe 2024 fifth-round pick South Carolinamakes his debut in Sunday's Week 6 home game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2). He will likely keep his starting job for the duration of Carr's absence.

Carr threw for 989 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions on a 70.3% pass rate in his second season with the Saints after signing a four-year, $150 million contract in 2023. The Saints were the league's No. 1 offense after the first two weeks, but have cooled off significantly during their three-game losing streak.

After scoring 91 points in the first two games, New Orleans has only put up 49 points in the last three games. Rattler has achieved great success in four seasons Oklahoma and South Carolina and is now tasked with steering the Saints' offense in the right direction as they try to stay afloat in the highly competitive NFC South.

“It was exciting,” Rattler said this week via the team’s website when he was named the starter. “They have confidence in me, but I love our group. We have so many talented people that I can rely on. And I don't have to do much, just pass the ball to them.

“I talked to (offensive coordinator) Klint (Kubiak) about it. Klint said, ‘Hey, let’s have a great week, prepare at a high level and come up with a great plan.’ It was short and sweet and we got to work, so that was good.”

Rattler has numerous weapons. This includes the receiver tandem of Chris Olave And Rashid Shaheed and run back Alvin Kamara.

“I feel like this game plan will allow him to go out there and just play,” Shaheed said. “We know they're going to give him a lot of different readings and try to rattle him. But we know he's super confident and that's what defines his game, his confidence. Smart player and he will play well.”
