New Zealand defeated Pakistan to reach the semi-finals of the Women's T20 World Cup | Cricket News

New Zealand's 54-run win in Dubai leads to India and Pakistan's elimination from the group stage.

New Zealand have secured their place in the semi-finals of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup after defeating Pakistan by 54 runs in the final group game in Dubai.

Monday's result means India exits the tournament in the group stage, finishing third in the Group A points table behind New Zealand and Australia.

New Zealand scored a total of 110-6 in their 20 overs and dismissed Pakistan for 56 in 11.4 overs to register a comfortable win.

Pakistan filled their team with slower bowlers, which affected New Zealand's batting average and did not allow their strong batting line-up to post a big total score.

Nashra Sandhu picked three wickets for 18 runs in her four overs while Suzie Bates top-scored for the White Ferns with 28 runs off 29 balls.

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana was back at the helm of her team after missing the last match against Australia due to the death of her father.

Sana scored 21 runs off 23 balls, the highest score in the Pakistan innings, as the women in green looked to chase down the target in 10 overs to improve their net run rate.

Pakistan kept losing regular wickets and were eliminated in the 12th over. Their defeat not only meant they were no longer eligible for the semi-finals but also led to India's elimination.

Australia topped the group with eight points from four games and remains favorites to defend the title, which they have won six times.

Their trans-Tasman neighbors New Zealand qualified in second place with six points and three wins from their four games.

India finished third with two wins and four points from their four matches, while Pakistan finished fourth with two points and one win. Sri Lanka finished last after failing to win a single game.

The other two semi-finalists will be confirmed on Tuesday when former champions England and the West Indies meet in the final group game in Dubai.

Both teams are in the running for a place in the final four, along with 2023 finalist South Africa.

The semi-finals will be held on October 17th (Dubai) and October 18th (Sharjah), with the final scheduled for October 20th in Dubai.
