New York Jets vs. New England Patriots game inactive

Jump start. Rekindle. Get back on track. All are descriptions of what the Jets must accomplish Sunday afternoon during their annual visit to Gillette Stadium in rural Massachusetts.

Of course, what can be said about the 2-5 Jets can also describe the mission of the 1-6 Pats. But if the Jets are looking to right their course and get back on the path to the playoffs, they'll need to fire up their winning engine soon, like they did Sunday.

The Patriots, long a green and white nemesis, have recently returned to earth. The Jets defeated them in the 2023 season finale in Foxboro, MA, Bill Belichick's final game as New England's head coach, and they defeated the Pats 24-3 in the home opener in Week 3 of that year.

would give them their first 3-game winning streak over the Patriots since a 4-game winning streak from 1999-2001, their first 2-game road winning streak in the rivalry since they posted 5 straight road wins from 1998-2002, and their first win of the season against the Pats since the 2000 season.

More importantly, it would end the Jets' 4-game losing streak, put them in the right frame of mind to take on the tough but beatable Texans in their Thursday night game at MetLife Stadium on Halloween, and potentially provide the vital spark for would trigger a mid-season run.

Hoping to help the Jets get that party started is edge rusher and veteran DL/LB Haason Reddick, who ended his long layoff with a full week of practice after being traded from the Eagles to the Jets in March. Reddick was signed to the active roster on Saturday and is expected to contribute to the Jets' pass rush against rookie QB Drake Maye on Sunday.
