New Destiny mobile game announced by Bungie, NetEase

Bungie's Destiny franchise is coming to a new platform Destiny: Ascensiona new entry for mobile platforms. Unlike the Blank Hunters, Titans and Warlocks of Destiny 2, Destiny: Ascension will feature playable heroes known as Lightbearers – “a diverse roster of characters, each with unique abilities and stories,” NetEase said. The mobile spin-off promises a shared world, similar to Bungie's Destiny setting, where players can take part in single-player, cooperative and competitive multiplayer activities. This includes six-player Strikes, as well as PvE and PvP modes inspired by previous Destiny games.

NetEase also promises new modes and new ways to play Destiny: Ascension. The company's mobile version of Destiny will be playable in both first- and third-person modes and can be played using touchscreen controls or dedicated controllers.

According to NetEase, the story of Destiny: Ascension will be set in an “invisible era” following the collapse of civilization and the resulting Dark Ages. “With the help of the legendary Iron Lords, humanity has broken the shackles of tyranny and begun to rally together against the alien forces that seek their extinction,” NetEase said in a story summary. “Amidst the chaos of this early age of the city, a new generation of light-bearers, resurrected by mysterious beings known as Spirits, sets out to restore humanity's relevance and secure its future.”

NetEase says each Lightbearer will have their own unique fighting style. Players are not bound to the defined classes Destiny 2. But they will wield “countless powerful exotic weapons,” ranging from firearms, swords, crossbows and more.

Destiny: Ascension is licensed and monitored by Bungie, says NetEase.
