Netflix new releases: November 2024

A contemporary historical drama about the origins of IVF; a paranoid thriller series starring Colman Domingo; a thrillingly original crime musical and awards contender from Jacques Audiard; the second part of the final season of Cobra Kai; and an awe-inspiring big-screen adaptation of a Pulitzer Prize-winning play by August Wilson are some of the highlights of the new films and series coming to Netflix in November.

On November 7th, action and mystery drama Outer Banks returns to Netflix. The first half of season four ended with several cliffhangers for the Pogues, many of which would be resolved to some extent in the second half of the season. Over on Kildare Island, Rudy Pankow's JJ probably gets his biggest bombshell dropped when he learns that he is not the son of his alcoholic and abusive father Luke. The cast has promised “craziness,” so expect more jaw-dropping revelations to come.

In a big film month for Netflix, the streamer is releasing a potential Oscar contender, Audiard's, on November 13th Emilia Perez. The French film, a musical crime drama starring Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón and Selena Gomez, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and won the Jury Prize and its female ensemble also won the Best Actress prize. Emilia Perez tells the story of a cartel leader (Gascón) who hires a lawyer (Saldaña) to fake her death so she can live her true self.

New episodes of Cobra Kai arrives on Netflix on November 15th with the release of the second three parts of the sixth and final season of the martial arts dramedy. In the second part of the sixth season, the Miyagi-Do find their way to Barcelona for the fight of their lives during the Sekai Taikai tournament, but Sensei Johnny Lawrence has his hands full motivating his karate students to fight for the world title.

Netflix will release the British historical drama on November 22nd Joy. The film tells the story of the birth of IVF and its journey into a real medical breakthrough in the UK in the 1960s and 1970s. Despite its historic nature, the issue of IVF is more relevant than ever, and some right-wing politicians in the US are threatening its use. Bill Nighy leads a talented cast that includes Thomasin McKenzie and James Norton. Directed by Ben Taylor from a screenplay by Its dark materials Scribe Jack Thorne.

Also premiering on November 22nd is Malcolm Washington's big screen adaptation of August Wilson's 1987 Pulitzer Prize-winning play The piano lesson. Another potential prize contender. The film's logline reads: “Set in 1936 Pittsburgh after the Great Depression. The piano lesson follows the lives of the Charles family in the Doaker Charles household and an heirloom, the family piano, which documents the family history through carvings made by their enslaved ancestor. The always excellent Danielle Deadwyler leads the cast with Samuel L. Jackson and John David Washington, the latter two also appearing in the Broadway revival of the play. The cast also includes Corey Hawkins, Michael Potts and Ray Fisher. Malcolm Washington, the son of Denzel Washington, makes his feature film debut The piano lesson and also co-wrote the screenplay with Virgil Williams.”

The in-demand Domingo appears in the Netflix series The madnesswhich will be released on November 28th on the streamer. In the paranoia-filled conspiracy thriller, the Oscar nominee plays a media expert who fears he will be framed for a murder he stumbled upon. The eight-part drama was created by Stephen Belber and also stars Marsha Stephanie Blake, Gabrielle Graham and John Ortiz.
