NBA champion challenges the Lakers after a trade between the Timberwolves and the Knicks

The Los Angeles Lakers had a quiet offseason when it came to upgrading their roster.

They are coming off a year in which they lost in the first round of the NBA playoffs, so there is a lot of pressure on the team to improve on last season's struggles.

On Friday evening, Shams Charania and Jon Krawczynski from The athlete reported that the New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves had completed a blockbuster trade involving Karl-Anthony Towns.

Earlier in the day, the Lakers announced a new addition to their staff.

Via The Lakers: “The Lakers have Dr. Vanessa Brooks hired as head athletic coach. Dr. Brooks has served as a physical therapist and athletic trainer for the Oklahoma City Thunder for the past five seasons.”

NBA champion Kendrick Perkins replied to the post.

Perkins wrote: “The NBA is NBA while the Lakers are hiring their coaches. 😑”

Fans reacted to Perkins.

Via @Real_AEX: “Rob is just waiting for the perfect opportunity to trade a first round pick for this top NBA player lol.”

Via @LakersLead: “??? We’re not allowed to hire a coach???”

Via @ImJustMeAbel: “This is pure cold 😭”

Via @SkinnySmokeski: “Listen, I've really criticized this team's lack of improvement over the offseason, but it's stupid as hell why we're even bringing it up in this conversation.”

About @KingMeezy11: “They had to restructure their staff to have quality people. They see it as a team that wasn't healthy last year and wasn't an organized style that just needs to trade up. “You have to stay healthy and have an identity. We don't know what kind of team they are when healthy.

The Lakers will play their first game on October 22nd when they host the Minnesota Timberwolves.
