Monica Mosely Murder: Four people have been arrested in connection with the shooting of a Cumberland County, New Jersey, detective

BRIDGETON, New Jersey (WPVI) — Three people have been charged with murder in the shooting death of Cumberland Co. Detective Sergeant Monica Mosely at her home, while a fourth person is accused of helping cover up the crime.

The suspects charged with murder are identified as:

-Jared Brown, 31, of Bridgeton

-Nyshawn Mutcherson, 29, of Vineland

-Richard Willis, 32, of Gloucester City

They are also accused of burglary, illegal possession of weapons and other crimes.

Cyndia Pimentel, 38, of Paulsboro, is charged with obstruction of an investigation, obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence.

The murder occurred Oct. 15 in the 600 block of Buckshutem Road in Bridgeton.

According to authorities, Mutcherson was picked up in Millville by Brown and Willis before the murder. All three allegedly traveled to a home in Bridgeton where they changed into dark clothing before driving to Mosley's home in a Chevy Equinox.

According to court documents obtained by Action News, the three men illegally entered Mosley's home and shot her to death around 10:30 p.m.

Before the investigator died from her injuries, authorities say she was able to shoot Mutcherson, who later showed up at Inspira Medical Center.

Mutcherson is accused of falsely telling officers that he was shot in Millville.

In the days following the murder, all three suspects allegedly attempted to destroy and destroy evidence of the deadly home invasion with the help of Pimentel.

Officers were able to use cell phone data, surveillance video, DNA and ballistics analysis, and recorded statements to file charges in this case.

The motive for the killing was not revealed.

According to Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae, Mosley began her career with the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office in 2006 as a paralegal before becoming a district detective in 2009. During her time with the Crown Prosecution Service, Mosley served in various units, including trial teams, the Special Victims Unit, the Community Justice Unit and the Professional Standards Unit (Internal Affairs), where she was assigned as division chief.

“Sergeant Mosley was a constant friend and role model to everyone she worked with and led in the law enforcement community throughout Cumberland County and beyond,” Webb-McRae said in a statement. “She served our community with honor, dignity and respect.”

Mosley was a mother of two daughters and also a grandmother.
