MLB results: Dodgers 10, Mets 2 – deja vu again

In games one, three and four of the 2024 National League Championship Series, Spider-Man was at his best as the Dodgers absolutely crushed the Mets again. This time 10-2 to take a commanding 3-1 lead over the Mets while outscoring them 30-9.

The game didn't start off as expected, as second half season hero Jose Quintana took the mound and immediately gave up a solo home run to Shohei Ohtani (his first hit all postseason without a runner in scoring position, because sure). Quintana finished the inning well, keeping the deficit at one, but the home run proved to be a sign of very bad things to come for the Mets and their fans.

The Mets had their moment of the game in the bottom of the second when Mark Vientos' breakout continued with a solo home run from Yoshinobu Yamamoto, tying the game. The second inning was scoreless, but the floodgates began to open in the third inning.

The Dodgers got runners in and scored in the third, the first on a double by Tommy Edman and the second on a single by Enrique Hernandez. The Mets would load the bases with one out in the bottom of the frame, but only chased home one (scoring when Brandon Nimmo hit a ball would somehow be a double play, despite his incredible injury).

The floodgates remained open for the Dodgers from then on, as they scored twice in the fourth, two in the sixth and three in the eighth, putting the Mets in their most difficult situation yet – a 3-1 deficit in the NLCS series .

Despite the score, the Mets had their chances to keep up with the Dodgers' consistent offense. They collected ten hits on the day (and walked three times), but left a whopping twelve men on base and went 0-10 with runners in scoring position. They loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the sixth, but trailed 7-2 and failed to score a run. It was just another poor performance with runners up and down for the Mets.

Although the season isn't over yet, the Mets must pull off their biggest comeback yet to get closer to their ultimate goal of a World Series championship. David Peterson will look to keep the season alive as Carlos Mendoza announced him as the starter after the game. The Mets will be hoping to overcome Jack Flaherty, who tore them apart with seven scoreless innings in Game 1, giving up just two hits and striking out six.
