MLB Playoffs: Yankees announce lineup for ALCS Game 4, replacing injured reserve

One night, after finding themselves on the wrong end of an all-time playoff classic, the Yankees must marshal their troops and turn things around quickly. After the brutal end of Game 3, they have no time to nurse their wounds; Gavin Williams will suit up for the Guardians tonight at 8:08 p.m. ET as the Yankees are desperate to avoid tying the ALCS at two games apiece.

They have announced the lineup that will lead this effort, with a few key changes from yesterday's contest:

2B Gleyber Torres
RF Juan Soto
CF Aaron Richter
3B Jazz Chisholm Jr.
DH Giancarlo Stanton
1B Anthony Rizzo
SS Anthony Volpe
C Austin Wells
LF Alex Verdugo

Austin Wells is back behind the plate after Jose Trevino started Game 3 with left-hander Matthew Boyd on the mound, but he slides to the eighth spot. The Yankees hope their struggling left-handers Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Wells get back on track with a right-hander on the mound. Chisholm will clean up the bats, with the Yankees opting to alternate left-handed and right-handed hitters in the middle of their lineup rather than running Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton back-to-back.

Anthony Rizzo also returns to the lineup and moves to sixth, with Jon Berti getting the start over Boyd. Rizzo came into the game in the eighth inning last night and had a tough time, seeing a ball bounce off his glove in the eighth inning and committing an error in the ninth inning.

Some roster changes from the Yankees are also notable. Ian Hamilton left last night with a calf injury and was replaced in the squad by Mark Leiter Jr.:

This is a tough blow because if the Yankees advance, Hamilton would be ruled out of the World Series. Leiter could suddenly play a key role if he's thrust into the ALCS with the Yankees' pitching staff in a precarious spot. Hamilton is down, Luke Weaver, Clay Holmes and Tommy Kahnle have been working hard, and the bullpen should expect some work tonight with Luis Gil making his first postseason start.
