Both programs are 4-3 and 2-2 in the Big Ten, but are trending in different directions. The Wolverines have lost consecutive games for the first time since 2020. They had a long list of things they tried to improve during a bye before last week's game against Illinois, but a lackluster passing game and turnover problems remained.

Michigan lost 21-7 in Jack Tuttle's first start behind center, scoring its fewest points in a game since 2014. That prompted first-year head coach Sherrone Moore to make another change at quarterback, with backup Davis Warren is expected to begin on Saturday, according to CBS Sports. Warren started the first three games before being benched after throwing three interceptions in a win over Arkansas State.

Meanwhile, the Spartans appeared to benefit from their bye week, ending their three-game losing streak with a 32-20 win over Iowa.

They outgained the Hawkeyes by 468 yards to 283 and revitalized their running game with a season-high 212 yards. That could carry into Saturday's game, as the team with the most productive ground attack has won 48 of the last 54 games in the rivalry.

Michigan has won the last two meetings, including 49-0 in East Lansing last year.
