Miami Dolphins Week 7 Full Preview and Final Score Prediction

The Miami Dolphins face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 7 as they return from their bye looking for a second straight win that would even their record at 3-3.

Here you will find all the relevant information for the game between the Dolphins and the Colts in Week 7.

Regular Season Series History: The Dolphins lead 46-28

The last five meetings

  1. October 3, 2021 in Miami – Colts 27, Dolphins 17
  2. November 10, 2019 in Indianapolis – Dolphins 16, Colts 12
  3. November 25, 2018, Indianapolis – Colts 27, Dolphins 24
  4. December 27, 2015 in Miami – Colts 18, Dolphins 12
  5. September 15, 2013, Indianapolis – Dolphins 24, Colts 20

It's difficult to pinpoint exactly what or who the 2024 Indianapolis Colts are as a team, but the one thing that's consistent is that they play close games. All six games were decided by six points or fewer, starting with a 29-27 loss to the Houston Texans and most recently their 20-17 win over the Tennessee Titans. The big story for the Colts was the injury to starting quarterback Anthony Richardson, who missed the last two games but will be back in the lineup against the Dolphins. This is not a team with a lot of star power and its two best players – running back Jonathan Taylor and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner – will not play in this game.

What stands out here is the Dolphins' 193-yard rushing performance, fresh off a bye, with De'Von Achane in the lineup facing a Colts defense ranked 31st in the NFL, when it comes to stopping the run. That would be a pretty easy recipe for the Dolphins, especially with backup quarterback Tyler “Snoop” Huntley will make his third – and possibly final – start before Tua Tagovailoa returns from his concussion. Defensively, the Dolphins will have to take advantage of the sometimes careless passing of Richardson, the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, who is a gifted athlete but sometimes tries to let too much happen.

Since it's so obvious that the Dolphins should try to run, run, and run some more, one might assume that the Colts and DC Gus Bradley would hatch a plan to force Miami to trade and get Huntley to do so to beat them with the passing game. If they succeed, the question becomes whether Huntley is up to the challenge. Richardson remains the wild card here, because as quickly as he can make a bad mistake – he has six interceptions in more than three games – he can make ridiculous plays, often out of nowhere.

While we won't call this a “must-win” game for the Dolphins, it's another crucial game that could set them up for a potential run with Tagovailoa's return imminent. The Dolphins were able to hold on in the running game at Gillette Stadium in Week 5 as they never trailed by more than seven points in the game. Therefore, avoiding falling behind quickly is a must here. Despite the Dolphins' 193-yard rushing performance, it wasn't a good performance, but the word here is that the Dolphins will look much better after their departure and two more weeks of practice with Huntley at quarterback. The Dolphins are on a four-game winning streak in the post-bye games, and we expect that win streak to increase to five.

Final result: Dolphins 17, Colts 16
