Miami Dolphins-Indianapolis Colts Week 7: The five biggest games

The Miami Dolphins lost for the fourth time in five games as they fell to a 16-10 decision against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday.

We evaluate the five biggest and most important plays of the game.

There was a lot that wasn't to like about that decision to let Jason Sanders attempt a 54-yard field goal to tie the score with less than six minutes to play as the Dolphins came from the Colts' 36-yard line with one Four-and-1 were faced. It came straight after full-back Alec Ingold was unsuccessfully substituted in the third and first periods. Therefore, the entire sequence may need to be questioned, especially given the lack of success in short-range situations recently. This situation required the Dolphins to be aggressive and play for the lead instead of settling for a field goal that was definitely a no-brainer to tie the game.

The Dolphins were locked in the second half but threatened to break a 10-10 tie when they scored a first-and-10 at the Colts' 15-yard line. Like Raheem Mostert before him, Ingold was stripped as he struggled for extra yardage.

The Dolphins appeared to be in control, leading 10-3 and starting a drive at their 38 after a forced punt. Mostert even had a good run on first down, but then he was pulled and the Colts returned the fumble to the Miami 28 to set up the game-winning touchdown drive.

In an awkward repeat of Monday night's game against Tennessee, the Dolphins forewent a long finish to give their opponent a chance to score three points just before halftime. This came after Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson struggled in the first half. The 33-yard completion to Michael Pittman again came in the middle of a soft zone, and Richardson deserves credit for getting the ball over linebacker David Long Jr. Still, it was a disappointing end to an otherwise good first half for Miami.

It may be that the Dolphins still wouldn't score a touchdown on their final drive, but Tim Boyle's short completion to De'Von Achane on second-and-1 from the Colts 32 was a killer. It was bad that Achane lost 1 yard on this play; Worse still, he was attacked down the field and Boyle was forced to surge forward in third place to kill time. That gave the Dolphins a must-win fourth-and-2 in the 33rd minute with 12 seconds left and no timeouts. The game ended with what we would call a Boyle throw to a well-covered Malik Washington near the sideline that landed 10 yards out of bounds.
