Miami Dolphins-Indianapolis Colts Five biggest storylines

The Miami Dolphins will look to even their record at 3-3 when they face the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Dolphins are coming off their bye that followed their 15-10 win over the New England Patriots in Week 5. The Colts are 3-3 and are coming off a 20-17 win over the Tennessee Titans.

The teams will meet for the first time since the 2021 season, when the Colts won 27-17 at Hard Rock Stadium.

Here are the five biggest storylines for this Week 7 matchup.

The main reason the Dolphins were able to beat New England in their last game to end their three-game losing streak was a running game that yielded 193 yards. The Dolphins are hoping for similar success against a Colts defense that ranks second to last in the NFL in run defense. The Dolphins should be at full strength at running back as De'Von Achane has recovered enough from the concussion he suffered against the Patriots to be left off the final injury report of the week.

The big story of this game from an Indianapolis perspective is the return to the lineup of quarterback Anthony Richardson, the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Richardson is an electrifying talent who can make some terrible mistakes, and it's up to the Dolphins to make him make mistakes more often than mistakes.

The Dolphins' special teams performance against New England in Week 5 was a borderline horror show that included a bad snap on a field goal attempt, a missed field goal attempt and a blocked Dolphins punt. The Dolphins simply won't survive such a performance often. Another twist here will be the late change in Long Snapper, Veteran Matt Overton signed on Saturday to replace Blake Ferguson after he was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list.

With Tua Tagovailoa expected to return to practice on Wednesday and return to the lineup in Week 8, this will likely be Tyler Huntley's final start at quarterback for the Dolphins. While we shouldn't expect him to pass for 300 yards or anything like that, getting a deep tackle on Tyreek Hill would be a huge bonus for the defense.

The game will feature two of the four edge defenders selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft: Chop Robinson of the Dolphins and Laiatu Latu of the Colts, and each team is looking for their rookie to take the breakthrough. Latu has one sack so far this season, while Robinson is waiting for his first. Given the injury issues the Dolphins are dealing with at the position, this would be a good game for Robinson to make an impact.
