    McDonald's Boo Buckets are back, and vintage buckets might have value

    Boo Buckets are back with Happy Meals at McDonald's restaurants today; and the popular Halloween trick-or-treat bucket giveaways are already for sale on eBay.

    The customizable plastic buckets replace the Happy Meal box for a limited time. This year's versions are all monster designs.

    When were the first McDonald's Boo Buckets sold?

    McDonald's introduced the buckets in 1986 as part of the Halloween Pumpkin Happy Meal with three pumpkin designs, all orange. Later, a white ghost, a green witch, and an orange pumpkin formed the classic Boo Buckets line from 1986–91, before McDonald's began using licensed characters such as Scooby-Doo.

    The buckets were discontinued in 2016 and didn't return until 2022.

    This week, white, orange and green buckets return, along with a blue bucket that replaces last year's purple bucket.

    How much do McDonald's Boo Buckets cost in 2024?

    They are free! (With the purchase of a Happy Meal. Happy Meal prices vary by location, but generally range between $4.50 and $5 in the Midwest.

    On an eBay account Tuesday morning, the set of four 2024 Boo Buckets was listed for $29.99.

    The same seller lists the 2023 set for $23.99.

    If you want the old-fashioned Boo Buckets trio of pumpkin, witch and ghost, you can purchase it on the website for $66.60.

    McDonald's will begin selling the Boo Buckets on October 15th.
