Maxx Crosby makes a comment that will spark speculation about his future

After trading Davante Adams, the Raiders are faced with the question of whether to start a rebuild.

Defensive player Maxx Crosby, who has said he doesn't want to be traded and who (according to owner Mark Davis) won't be traded, spoke to reporters in the locker room on Wednesday about the “rebuild” dynamic.

“I’m not here to rebuild, I’m here to win,” Crosby said. “Well, you know, I don’t know. Whatever that means, but yes, I'm here to win now. And wherever I will be, I will be here to win. So that’s all that matters to me.”

Two things. First, watch the quotes in the attached video. At some point he smiles ironically and almost knowingly. It's gone almost as quickly as it arrived, but it's unmistakable. He thought something that he didn't say.

Secondly, he then said something interesting. “Wherever I’m going to be, I’m going to be here to win.”

What does that mean?

The problem with giving the team's best offensive player a one-way ticket out of town is that the team's best defensive player might think about getting his own ticket. How could he not? How could anyone not consider the huge difference between life with a losing team and a possible escape to a contender?

That doesn't mean he wants to be traded. That definitely doesn't mean he'll be traded.

But in those easy, casual moments at a player's locker, sometimes something that looks and feels a little like the truth creeps out. Between the brief smile and the remark, “Wherever I'm going to be, I'm going to be here to win,” it's fair to wonder what Crosby really wants.
