The American people have made it clear that Donald Trump is their choice for president. They sent a clear message to coastal elites that it is the working class and middle America who run this country.

Vice President Kamala Harris delivered a worthy performance in a short period of time and certainly achieved better results than President Joe Biden would have done. There will be plenty of doubts, especially given her failure to elect Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro as her vice presidential running mate, but the blue wall has collapsed so much that even that decision likely wouldn't reverse that outcome .

Americans were dissatisfied with the country's course. Voters believed they would be worse off under Joe Biden, whom they blamed for inflation. They wanted a closed border and a leader who would once again exude strength rather than weakness.

But Donald Trump is probably the only Republican who could have won this race because only he was able to speak to working-class voters who feel left out of a Democratic agenda that offered handouts instead of opportunities and cared more climate change rather than lower energy prices. These Trump voters have different priorities.

His campaign targeted voters in Michigan over auto jobs, voters in Pennsylvania over fracking, Arizona over immigration and Nevada over “no tip tax.” These targeted efforts all appealed to the working class of these states and expanded their opportunities.

Trump did better with almost everyone. The election polls show that he performed better, especially among younger voters. Democrats lost ground with Latino and even black voters, who did not speak out as strongly as they did with other Democrats.

Democrats must now dismantle the lawfare campaign they have put together and recognize that America voted and said that January 6th was history and a chapter was closed. Democrats are now the ones who must hand over power with dignity and grace, lest they squander their chances of returning in 2028.

And the party needs to examine how far it has drifted to the left and realign itself for 2028. This is a presidential election in which there will be open primaries on both sides of the political aisle and America will have the opportunity to set the course for the next decade.

The liberal media has once again lost the trust of the American people, fallen to new lows in the polls, and must work to realign its newsrooms.

The polls were once again just a few points too conservative and there were once again two to three percent of so-called shy Trump voters who were waiting for their votes to be announced on Election Day. The extent of Trump's victory only became apparent when the votes were counted, and no polls really predicted the full extent of the victory. Iowa, Ohio and Florida were all once considered swing states and are now not even close to that size.

Trump's victory is a victory for Americans who feel abandoned by elites and a Democratic Party that has strayed too far from the American mainstream.

Now it's up to Trump to learn from his first administration and try to move this country forward and use wisely the power the American people have placed in his hands.
