Important events

The Premier League table. This is how everyone sits after Tottenham's defeat against their London rivals and before 3 p.m. Aston Villa, Brighton, Newcastle, Fulham and Brentford all have the chance to make a splash at the top, but the real action is at the bottom this afternoon, with relegation six points against Ipswich, Everton, Saints and Leicester. Manchester United, meanwhile, are frolicking in the mezzanine purgatory, so expect a lot more noise from outside the stage afterwards if they don't pick up three points at Old Trafford.

Spurs are recovering from their capitulation at Brighton to move up to sixth place in the Premier League… at least for a few hours. Ange Postecoglou's side showed their usual attacking verve, although the Hammers were a desperate mess with Julen Lopetegui trudging down the tunnel with a face on his face. Rob Smyth has all the details.

preamble

We chased our international pleasures here, dug up our Nations League treasures there and now we have made the breakthrough to the other side. The Premier League is back, baby, after its last interminable break, and while the Doors aren't exactly a fashion reference point these days, it was either them or the Mike Sammes Singers. Anyway, here's kickoff at 3pm…

  • Fulham vs Aston Villa

  • Ipswich Town v Everton

  • Manchester United vs Brentford

  • Newcastle United vs Brighton & Hove Albion

  • Southampton vs Leicester City

…and in Scotland there's the little thing Celtic v Aberdeen, so we'll have news of that nostalgic trip to the 1980s too. We will share any team news as it comes in. Let's move on.
