Social media users are in awe of a dog that climbed to the top of the Great Pyramid of Giza.

A viral video shot by Alex Lang and reposted on Instagram by adventurer Marshall Mosher has been viewed more than 49,000 times. It shows an aerial view of the dog exploring the top of the Egyptian pyramid.

Lang was paragliding over the ancient pyramid, which at over 450 feet tall was the largest in the area, when he spotted the animal. The paraglider took part in the SkyOne Egypt Gate 6 paramotor event this week, which took place around the pyramids.

The dog was recorded barking at birds from the top of the approximately 3,800-year-old pyramid.

After Lang shared it on Instagram on October 14, the video quickly went viral and viewers reacted to the clip across multiple social media platforms. The paraglider zoomed in on the top of the pyramid to show the dog roaming around.

In a statement to Storyful, Lang said, “I wasn’t expecting this at all.”

“I just saw movement and when I looked closer I realized it was a dog – it was barking and chasing birds from the top of the pyramid.”

There are 118 pyramids in Egypt that are thousands of years old. The Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the seven ancient wonders of the world and attracts numerous visitors every year.

According to Statista, more than 11 million tourists visited Egypt in 2022 to see attractions such as the pyramids. More than 500,000 of Egypt's tourists this year came from the United States.

Social media users were quick to share their reactions to the viral video, with many in disbelief at how the dog reached the top. X user @allthedogspleaz wrote: “Sometimes you just gotta climb the highest hill and bark at some birds, man.”

“Whoever pees higher owns it,” Instagram user @andreicomedy wrote, adding, “Check the partner cats.”

Other Instagram users also chimed in with jokes, with @akkasharora writing: “His friends will never believe him.”

“Dog wants to explore nearby wonders of the world,” wrote user @kevin_dsouza5.

User @my.own.person commented: “Dear Captain Maker, how can he live up there? What does he eat and what does he drink? You mean he’s magical now?!”

In another video, Mosher showed the dog coming down the pyramid to the ground, tail wagging.

User @bogdan.gajic said: “He calls the sun god Amon Ra!”
